Graphene

After separating from graphite, graphene is the world's thinnest and strongest material. This one-atom, carbon-based material can conduct electricity and heat; its density provides great strength.

The 2010 Noble Prize in Physics was presented to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov for their combined research in isolating graphene from graphite. Their research was concluded through the simple process of using Scotch tape to peel off the sheets of graphene from graphite.
